Hulu Picks Up Season 2 of Web Series Workshop, Starring Passions Vet Phillip Jeanmarie

It's smart, it's sweet, it's snarky, it's Workshop! That terrific web dramedy about a band of struggling Hollywood actors has returned for its second season and is now available via Hulu ( This is the first time Hulu has distributed an independent half-hour series, so kudos to Nate Golon, the show's gifted creator/exec producer/star, and to Daytime Confidential gossip kings Luke Kerr and Jamey Giddens, who recently signed on as associate producers. To help kick off Season 2, TV Guide Magazine had a chat with actor Phillip Jeanmarie, who plays Workshop wannabe Adam Saltair. Of course, he's better known to the fans of Passions for his landmark work as Vincent Clarkson, the psychotic, incestuous, sperm-stealing, she-male tabloid reporter who made life in Harmony a living hell...

Quick Clicks: ‘Workshop’ on Hulu, ‘ElfQuest’, ‘White Collar Brawler’, ‘We Break Hearts’

Online video and web series news worth clicking today… Workshop the series debuts Season 2 today on Hulu after inking a distribution deal with the network earlier this spring. Creator Nate Golon is calling it the first half-hour web comedy to premiere on the site, and looking back over our records, he may be right. “As an added bonus, we’ve also posted episode 2, since people were patient enough to wait an extra week,” said Golon on the launch. That means you’ll need to earmark about 44 minutes for this comedic look inside the world of struggling La actors. 20 minutes in, we’d have to say it’s worth it. Six episodes total are due out this season, adding up to a whopping 132 minutes of comedy. [Workshop on Hulu] ElfQuest came to life last night with the SAG screening and release of the “fan imagined” trailer for a would-be series based on the popular comic book series.

Read the Room

When you go in for a late-afternoon commercial audition, you're likely to be fresh-faced and upbeat about being there. But actors are sometimes oblivious to the fact that the casting director has already been at it for six or seven hours. He or she likely has that not-so-fresh feeling. In fact, the CD could be more tired and annoyed than you realize."Actors have no way of knowing the session was too packed all day and the casting director didn't get a lunch," says Killian McHugh, a CD with Alyson Horn's office in Hollywood, who teaches workshops in commercial audition technique. If the direction you're getting from a casting director isn't of the hand-holding, warm-and-fuzzy variety, chances are good that the CD is having a rough day. That's something you have to be sensitive to if you want to maintain a warm, ongoing relationship with that office."Actors don't know what it's like at 4 p.
