Can Helena Bonham Carter (‘The Crown’) finally win her first career Golden Globe?

Can Helena Bonham Carter (‘The Crown’) finally win her first career Golden Globe?
Throughout her career, Helena Bonham Carter received seven prior Golden Globe nominations, but has yet to win one. As she now just received her eighth nomination this year for the third season of the acclaimed Netflix series “The Crown” (taking over for Vanessa Kirby from the first two seasons as Princess Margaret), will Carter finally win a Globe herself this year?

The Crown” traces the life of Queen Elizabeth II (Olivia Colman) from her wedding in 1947 through to the present day. Season 3 covers the time period between 1964 and 1977, beginning with Harold Wilson‘ (Jason Watkins) election as Prime Minister and ending with the Silver Jubilee of Elizabeth II. Events depicted include the unmasking of the Queen’s art adviser Sir Anthony Blunt (Samuel West) as a Soviet spy, Wilson’s time as Prime Minister, the Aberfan disaster, the Apollo 11 moon landing, the 1969 Investiture of Prince Charles (Josh O’Connor), the decolonization of Africa and the Caribbean,

What Does SAG Snubbing ‘Succession’ Mean For HBO’s Prestige Drama Heir Apparent?

What Does SAG Snubbing ‘Succession’ Mean For HBO’s Prestige Drama Heir Apparent?
The Screen Actors Guild Awards nominations this morning managed to be simultaneously predictable and inexplicable, perhaps the most impressive and infuriating accomplishment in an awards season that continues to prove confounding. The guild, with more than 160,000 members, doubled-down on many of its favorite comedic performances, again embracing actors from Amazon Prime’s “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel,” Netflix’s “The Kominsky Method,” and HBO’s “Barry,” while kicking the bulk of last year’s TV drama nominees to the curb, taking up instead with the new cast of Netflix’s “The Crown” and Apple TV+’s “The Morning Show.”

What’s more, the SAG nominations appeared to be interested in serving as a low-key corrective to Emmy Awards drama winners from only a few months earlier. Specifically, the winners for lead actor in a drama series and supporting actress in a drama series at the Emmys – Billy Porter (“Pose”) and Julia Garner

Alex Ross Perry Goes From ‘Her Smell’ to Stephen King’s ‘The Dark Half’ MGM Adaptation

Director Alex Ross Perry is about to become one of the many writer/directors who puts a Stephen King-sized notch in their belt as he prepares to adapt the novel The Dark Half for MGM. Perry is hot off the success of his well-reviewed film Her Smell, starring Elisabeth Moss and released earlier in 2019. [caption id="attachment_858687" align="alignright" width="236"] Image via Pocket Books/caption] Now, Perry has his sights on the world of King, one of the most frequently (if not the most frequently) adapted authors for film and television. According to Deadline, Perry will …

Alex Ross Perry to Direct Adaptation of Stephen King’s ‘The Dark Half’ for MGM
Alex Ross Perry (“Her Smell”) will write and direct the adaptation of Stephen King’s best-seller “The Dark Half” for MGM, an individual with knowledge of the project told TheWrap.

The story had been previously turned into a 1993 MGM film, which starred Timothy Hutton. It followed an author whose crime thrillers under a pseudonym sold better than the books written with his real name. Once his pseudonym is exposed, he decides to give his other ego a burial, but things start turning sinister as the alter ego has taken on a life of its own.

King wrote the book based on his own experiences when it was revealed he was writing thriller novels under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. Those novels included “Thinner,” “Running Man,” “Rage” and “The Long Walk.”

‘Her Smell’ Helmer Alex Ross Perry To Adapt & Direct Stephen King Novel ‘The Dark Half’ For MGM

  • Deadline
Exclusive: MGM has set Alex Ross Perry to adapt and direct The Dark Half, a new adaptation of the 1989 Stephen King bestseller. Perry popped after writing, directing and producing Her Smell, the drama that premiered at the 2018 Toronto Film Festival, and for which Elisabeth Moss is Spirit Awards-nominated for her portrayal as a self-destructive rock star.

Perry plans a reinvention of a story first turned into a 1993 MGM film by the late zombie impresario George Romero. That film starred Timothy Hutton as an author whose books sell Ok and have a literary vibe to them. They don’t sell nearly as well as grisly crime thrillers he writes under an alter ego. Once his pseudonym is exposed, the author and his wife decide to give the other author a ceremonial burial. And then the people who were involved in doing that start turning up dead as it appears the alter

SAG Award Nominations: Mrs. Maisel Leads the Way

Nominations for the 26th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards were announced Wednesday morning, and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel continued to be a big force on the awards front.

The Rachel Brosnahan-led Amazon Prime Video comedy picked up four total nominations, leading the TV Pack.

The Crown, Game of Thrones, Stranger Things, The Morning Show, Fleabag, and The Kominksy Method followed with three noms each.

If we take a look by outlet, Netflix leads the way with 13 total nominations. HBO comes in second place with 10 nods, while Amazon Prime has seven.

Netflix and HBO achieving a lot of nominations is nothing new. Both services had excellent turnouts at the Golden Globe nominations earlier this week.

Also unsurprising is The Morning Show. Despite the tepid critical response, the Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon-led Apple TV+ drama series is having a strong showing on the awards front.

2020 SAG Awards TV Predictions: Will Actors Honor ‘The Crown’ or Look to ‘Watchmen’?
The Golden Globe nominations are out, and now it’s the Screen Actors Guild’s turn to steer the 2020 awards cycle. With more voting members than the HFPA — and more long-lasting devotion to previous nominees — the 2020 SAG Awards likely won’t see as many new faces and wild picks. Instead, expect to see beloved shows like “The Crown” and “Game of Thrones” to continue to do well, while new series need broad viewership and intense support to break through.

‘The Crown’ would pull a ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ at the SAG Awards with a win for Olivia Colman

‘The Crown’ would pull a ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ at the SAG Awards with a win for Olivia Colman
Olivia Colman is trying to follow in Claire Foy‘s footsteps in more ways than one. Succeeding her as Queen Elizabeth II on “The Crown” is one thing and now she’s attempting to emulate her awards run for the show. Colman is the heavy favorite to take home the Best TV Drama Actress Golden Globe and Screen Actors Guild Awards, just like Foy did, and a win at the latter would put “The Crown” in the company of just one other show to field two different winners in the category.

Thanks to Foy’s back-to-back wins in 2017-18, “The Crown” is one of eight shows to garner multiple SAG Awards in the lead actress category. But seven of those series had their same respective star score repeat victories; the only show to boast two different winners is “Grey’s Anatomy,” which saw Sandra Oh and Chandra Wilson triumph back to

‘Us’ Leads African American Film Critics Association’s 2019 Awards and Ten Best List
The African American Film Critics Association (Aafca) has named Jordan Peele’s acclaimed horror film “Us” (Universal) Best Film of 2019. The tenth-highest box-office grosser of the year took home three awards, including Best Director for Peele and Best Actress for star Lupita Nyong’o.

“Jordan Peele continued to raise the bar in horror specifically and film overall,” said Aafca President/Co-Founder Gil Robertson. “With ‘Us,’ he once again upended the horror genre. His centering of a black nuclear family determined to survive in a complex storyline in a genre where black family units have historically been unseen is extraordinary. He continues to push previously set boundaries with bold storylines that bring a refreshing perspective to cinema overall and the genre specifically. The film’s $255 million global gross is yet another example that inclusive filmmaking resonates big at the box office and it also resonated critically with our members who awarded the film with our highest honors.

With ‘Her Smell’ and ‘Us,’ Elisabeth Moss Becomes a Modern Master of Women on the Verge

With ‘Her Smell’ and ‘Us,’ Elisabeth Moss Becomes a Modern Master of Women on the Verge
“Classic Moss!” is how Elisabeth Moss describes her performance in the upcoming “The Invisible Man” as a woman being gaslit by a toxic male ghost. In the trailer, she’s screaming, kicking, and being dragged across a hospital floor by RNs, but this is all just another day’s work for the Emmy-winning actress, whose performances thrum with the rebellion and pain hidden beneath a manic spiral.

Moss recently sat down with IndieWire to discuss her shattering turn in Alex Ross Perry’s “Her Smell” as a deranged, drug-addled punk rocker, and in Jordan Peele’s “Us” as both a rosé-guzzling Wasp and her murderous double.

Moss launched her career with “Mad Men” as Peggy, the mild-mannered secretary-turned-ace-copywriter; since then, she’s become the go-to actress for characters who are ready to revel in a breakdown. In Perry’s 2015 “Queen of Earth,” she makes a meal out of her character
